The Law of Attraction — Ask, Believe, Receive!

There is a basic law that like attracts like. Negative thinking definitely attracts negative results. Conversely, if a person habitually thinks optimistically and hopefully, his positive thinking sets in motion creative forces - and success, instead of eluding him, flows toward him.” — Dr. Norman Vincent Peale

This quote from Dr. Norman Vincent Peale beautifully captures the essence of the Law of Attraction. Essentially, the Law of Attraction is quite simple — the results of the thoughts we continuously allow to occupy our minds are reflected in our daily experiences and life events.

As Dr. Peale explains, "Your thinking creates your beliefs and your beliefs create your reality."

This may be hard to accept at first; especially if things are not going well in your life. To you, it might sometimes seem that everything that could go wrong is going wrong — that circumstances and situations are out of your control — you are the victim of chance.

However much scientific research and study on the power of thoughts and their influence on external situations, reveals that virtually everything that happens to us is a reflection of deep-seated attitudes, ideas, beliefs or habitual thoughts. Unfortunately, for many, these are generally negative.

Napoleon Hill, explains it this way: “Our minds become magnetized with the dominating thoughts we hold in our minds, and these magnets attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts."

These are life changing concepts! When you suddenly realize that your thoughts and feelings are energy, attracting to themselves, the situations and circumstances to fulfill or correspond with your habitual thinking — it is an enormous wake-up call! Suddenly you realize the importance of your thoughts — that they do indeed create your reality! And, from that moment on, you become very discerning as to what type of reality you want to experience.

When you first begin to look at your thinking patterns you will be stunned at how many thoughts are floating around inside your head at any given time. They zip around like tadpoles in a small pond. Many of them are negative and self-defeating, many are non-productive like worrying or rehashing long past events, grievances or hurts, and rehearsing what you wish you’d said or done, many are angry, many are "what if" scenarios, and the rest are simply habitual patterns of attitudes and beliefs we scarcely notice.

Most of us have never been challenged to think about — what we think about! However, a very good barometer of the influences our thoughts are having on our lives, is to examine our feelings. There are only good feelings or bad feelings. Good feelings indicate that your predominate thoughts are positive, happy, and constructive; you are focusing on good things and good results. However, if your feelings are bad, negative, despairing, angry or sad, it indicates that your predominate thoughts are focused on negative things: worries, fears, self-destructive or self-sabotaging attitudes, or beliefs. This creates bad results.

We learn most of these thought habits as children, and they have become second-nature to us, as adults. One of the greatest lessons the Law of Attraction teaches, is that we can overcome these patterns and become the master of our thoughts and experiences. Henry David Thoreau said, “Thought is the sculptor who can create the person you want to be.

John Assaraf, (onecoach.com) explains the Law of Attraction this way, “Our job as humans is to hold on to the thoughts of what we want, make it absolutely clear in our minds what we want, and from that we start to invoke one of the greatest laws in the Universe, and that’s the law of attraction. You become what you think about most, but you also attract what you think about most.

The Law of Attraction is based on a 3-part formula — Ask. Believe. Receive.

1. Ask: Determine what it is you want; and why you want it: and identify what you don’t want. Remember you are a creator — you can create what you want in life — you just need to be clear about what you want and not send out mixed messages.

2. Believe: Sincerely and truly believe that what you are asking for will become yours. The Law of Attraction reveals that the Universe is a mirror reflecting back to us our predominant thoughts and emotions. You must think, feel, and act as if your request is being received right now. As you release unwavering faith, the Universe will move on circumstances and/or people to make your requests happen.

3. Receive: - Express your appreciation, thankfulness and gratitude for what you are asking. Allow yourself to feel wonderful, excited, and joyful. Feel the way you know you will feel when you have what you want. Remember though, that part of receiving is being ready to respond to any opportunity the Universe gives to fulfill your request.

The following two comments are from The Secret, page 25.

One says: Thoughts are magnetic, and thoughts have a frequency. As you think thoughts, they are sent out into the Universe, and they magnetically attract all like things that are on the same frequency. Everything sent out returns to the source — you.

The other comment says: Your current thoughts are creating your future life. What you think about the most or focus on the most will appear as your life.

From this we learn the following lessons:

• Examine your thoughts and feelings every day!
• Determine what “results” you are requesting from the Universe!
• If your thoughts don’t line up with what you want—Change Your Thoughts!
• Never forget — you’re in charge of what goes on in your own head!
• You have the ability to Create the Life You Want and Deserve!
